***Water ballasted boats must carry full ballast at all times. Failure
to carry full ballast will result in an adjustment to the handicap or
disqualification from the regatta.
1. Standards
These handicaps are determined using data from Lake Ontario PHRF, Northern
California PHRF and USS Portsmouth Yardsticks. For more information, refer
to the information bulletin Prestige Cup Handicap Scheme.
2. Adjustments
All handicaps given are for Standard Boats. Adjustments will be made
on Day 1 of the regatta for the following:
a. Non-flying Sails (NFS: e.g., no spinnaker)
(Non-flying Spinnaker: No additional information required. Make your declaration
on your registration sheet.)
b. Non-standard Sails—Foresail only (e.g., foresail smaller or
larger than the standard sail size for the class) NOTE: ALL MAINSAILS
AND SPINNAKERS WILL BE CLASSED AS STANDARD SAILS. NO ADJUSTMENTS WILL
BE GIVEN FOR UNDERSIZED MAINSAILS OR SPINNAKERS
(Non-standard Sail (Foresail): You will be required to bring the following
sail measurements for the largest foresail used:
From the clew to the closest point on the luff; AND
From the tack to the head, while the sail is under maximum tension
Please provide measurements in Imperial units: e.g., feet and inches)
c. Outboard motors with propellers and shafts submerged
(Outboard: No additional information required. Make your declaration on
your registration sheet.)
If you intend to request Adjustments for any of the reasons listed above,
you must bring the following information with you when you register:
-Adjustment
-Information Required
IMPORTANT NOTES:
A. All adjustments for NFS and/or non-standard sails are made based on
the largest sails used at any point in the entire regatta. For example,
if a boat uses a spinnaker even a single race, that boat may not receive
a NFS adjustment for any race—even a race during which the spinnaker
was not used.
B. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO DECLARE A FORESAIL THAT IS GREATER THAN 150% OF
THE FORE TRIANGLE AREA OF YOUR BOAT. BOATS THAT DO NOT DECLARE OVERSIZED
FORESAILS WILL RECEIVE A RATING PENALTY EQUAL TO 10% OF THE BOAT'S ADJUSTED
HANDICAP.
3. Appeals
Any KLSA member intending to race may appeal her/his handicap. Appeals
must be in writing and must include a clear statement regarding the reason
for the appeal.
