Notice of Race
2003 PRESTIGE CUP REGATTA
June 28 & 29, 2003



Event The 2003 Prestige Cup will commence with Race 1 on Saturday, June 28 and
will consist of races around laid buoys off the shores of Nelson, BC on the
West Arm of Kootenay Lake.

Rules The Regatta will be governed by:
The ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing 2001-2004 (RSS)
PHRF Handicapping for Division A
Portsmouth Yardstick Handicapping for Division B
The Sailing Instructions and the Notice of Race




Entries The regatta will consist of two separate divisions comprising the classes listed:

   Division A: all keelboats and cruisers
   Division B: all dinghies and multihulls (dependant on number of entries)


Should it be necessary, the Organizing Authority reserves the right to postpone or cancel any race.
Sailing Instructions will be provided at the registration areas.


Entry Fees Entry Fees include racing, dinner tickets, access to the hospitality event, entertainment and eligibility for door prizes. Entry Fees are:
· Skipper and boat: $30
· Crew: $20
· Dinner tickets are available for non-competitors and are $20 per adult and $10 per child   under 12 years of age


Registration Registration will take place on Friday, June 27 from 1800 to 2100 hrs at the
Elephant Mountain Bar and Grill at the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort.
Registration will also be available from 0800 to 0900 on Saturday, June 28 for
late arrivals
.
The Organizing Authority encourages all skippers to register their vessels on Friday evening.


Prizes Prizes will be awarded in each division for First, Second and Third places at
approximately 14:30 on Sunday June 29,2003.
Races will be scored on low points and based on corrected times as per
handicapping in each division.


   
Liability Competitors participate in the Regatta entirely at their own risk (see rule 4 of
the Racing Rules of Sailing, “Decision to Race”).

- By entering, each competitor warrants the suitability of the entered boat for the
   races.
- In particular, owners shall accept full responsibility for the seaworthiness and safe
   navigation of their boats and the competence of their crew and use their own
   judgment whether to start, continue or retire from a race in the existing or
   forecasted conditions.
- Owners shall draw the attention of their crews to this disclaimer before the start
   of any race and also to RRS Fundamental Rule 4 (Decision to Race)
- The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or
   personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or
   after the Regatta.

  09:15    Skipper’s Meeting at the City of Nelson Public wharfage adjacent to
                   the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort
  
  10:00    Division flags and start signals.
    
16:30    Approximate finish of race.
    17:30    Reception at the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort banquet room.
    18:30    Dinner at the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort banquet room. 

Sunday,June 29, 2003
    08:00    ‘Sailors Breakfast’ available from 0800 on at the Prestige Inn
    
10:00    Racing Resumes for the day. 
    
14:30 (approx)  Prizes awarded.

Moorage There is moorage available at the Prestige Inn Lakeside Resort Marina for $5 per
night and all boats should be prepared to raft up in the event of overcrowding.
Be prepared with adequate bumpers.
Boat launching is available via the boat ramp at Lakeside Park underneath the south
end of the orange bridge

The Prestige Cup has traditionally centered around the Canada Day long weekend and there are
many events scheduled at Lakeside Park on July 1st: live entertainment, special activities for kids
and adults, streetcar rides, the Canada Day Sailpast hosted by the Nelson chapter of the CPSS and
spectacular fireworks in the evening.

The Prestige Inn offers a wide array of comfort from their luxurious suites overlooking the water
and the Inn also provides an excellent dining experience at Tuscany’s Restaurant or great pub fare
from Nelson’s only waterfront bar: the Elephant Mountain Bar and Grill.
